What's your #1 tip when dealing with clients?
Listen carefully to what they want, to ensure you know exactly what the requirements are, so that you remain with their budget and deadline – lots of communication is essential to keep both parties happy.
What is your most memorable experience as a business owner in France?
Picking up a copy of Living Magazine and seeing so many of the logos I’ve designed printed in the ads.
What do you enjoy most about what you do?
The interaction of ideas with clients and the thrill when we both agree we are happy with the final result. Seeing something appear in print or online is wonderful.
What do you do to switch off from your business?
Enjoy our 5 dogs and 9 cats! Play lawn bowls during the summer months and indoor short mat bowls during the winter.
Drive round the country delivering aid/donations to other charities working with Omnis Association helping people and animals in distress and volunteering for Cats Association and Twilight – the retirement home for dogs.
What advice would you give to someone starting out in business in France?
Be prepared to invest, when you you start planning your budget, don’t overlook the need for a professional logo, business cards, stationery and website. It need not be expensive, in fact you might be surprised. And don’t forget to have a budget for advertising, whether it be via social media or in print, signage etc. There is no point having a wonderful brand but you are unable to advertise it properly due to lack of funds.
What's the best book you have ever read?
The Harry Potter series by JK Rowling. It may not be the “best” but I loved the triumph of goodies against baddies.
A penguin walks through your front door wearing a sombrero. What does he say and why is he there?
“Design me a logo! I want to sell ice cream to Eskimo’s”
