It's tough being a solo entrepreneur or small business owner. You are managing many aspects of your business in a day/week/month. Unless you are able to outsource tasks such as bookkeeping, marketing, sales, you are pretty much all things in your business. And some tasks get more attention than others, even though all tasks are as important as each other.
For those who create things daily, I admire. Those who paint, draw, create things with their hands must find themselves in state of creativity much of the time. However, creativity is not just for the creative who makes a living from their artistic talents. Creativity is important for all businesses but creativity may not be a skill or characteristic that comes naturally. Can you set aside some time in your working week, month for an activity that inspires you or that you love? Not only are you feeding your soul but making time for personal growth that you and your business will benefit from.
I spend a large proportion of my time in front of the computer and large doses of creativity are required for the work I do. Luckily I work from home, so I can take regular breaks to keep day to day activity on a roll. If and when I feel a bit stale or blocked I spend time either doing the housework to music or gardening. Both tasks free up my mind, particularly gardening, I am fully absorbed with the surroundings of nature. Once my mind is clear, I can visit whatever I need to do with a bit more clarity without having to push or fight my way into a creative zone.
If you are open to making more time for a bit of creativity add this time to your working schedule and do what you love or are inspired by.
If you need to get creative quickly take a walk, or bike ride. Do some meditation, listen to some sounds of nature. Get the blank paper out and your colouring pens/pencils. Brainstorm ideas, doodle. Share ideas with other business owners, get feedback. Get yourself a coach.
I've known business owners to take real time out away from their business and put themselves in an environment of complete relaxation and utilise dedicated time for working on their business. This may not be an option for all business owners. We are all different, and have different needs. I hope this blog has inspired you to think about how you might create pockets of creativity for your business.
Yours socially
