I am sure you will agree there's no such thing as 9 to 5 when running your own business, you tend to work more hours and chances are you have not had a proper break this year. For many such as trades things may tend to quieten down considerably towards the end of the year. While much of France enjoys a slow and relaxing August, for trades the summer months can be the most busy. For others this time of means busy busy busy with demands to be met such as making sales and getting items out in the post. Your summer months may have been busy making and crafting.
It is important to take a break, not just for you but for your business as well. If you have been working for weeks even months on end without a proper rest by the end of the year you are probably feeling it. Winter is approaching, we have less va va voom compared to summer. Many of us work long hours, which over a period of time without rest can lead to burn out and can hinder productivity. Taking a well earned rest will restore balance and recharge those batteries ready for 2016. Every business needs to have pockets of time where you are not totally focussing on day to day work. A relaxed mind means that ideas and creativity can flow without stumbling blocks, for topics on how you are going to move forward, to plan, to play with ideas. Don't feel guilty about having some beneficial time off – you are your businesses best asset – and you need to look after yourself.
Remember to let your customers/clients know what your plans are. Whether you are offering a reduced service across the festive period or taking some definite time away – make it clear when you are available to be contacted. Email your clients, change your out of office message and any voice mail message on your home and mobile phone. Many business owners may prefer a complete digital detox and good for you. Others may want to check in every couple of days and respond to emails and phone calls accordingly. We all have different levels of how close we want to be to our businesses when taking time out, and you have to do what is right for you.
If you are taking some time out, enjoy!
Yours socially
