In rural France, homemade cake and coffee is enough to whip up a crowd and this was no exception. My usual lines of enquiry: Facebook group LIFT - Ladies in France Together and Les Dames de F.E.R had the desired effect and some of the best cake makers from the Deux Sevres and the Haute Vienne arrived with some delicious offerings. One fabulous couple Charlotte and Chris Nightingale had travelled 2 hours from their establishment Maison Bussière in Bussière-Poitevine with a delicious homemade lemon drizzle cake, which along with some bread pudding had everyone salivating the night before on Facebook.
The power of online networking fused with offline events creates ongoing circles of synergy. One couple from Sauze Vassais had seen Bev Barker Brown from Chez Tante Mabel from a distance at the Lezay Market and both were able to chat over coffee. Jacqui Brown from French Village Diaries took advantage of using the coffee morning to meet a potential volunteer for the local school's English Club for French children. Anne Carter from Beaux Bibelots joined us with some her stunning wares and if you haven't seen her collection join her at Beaux Bibelots Facebook page. Books and cards were also present for people to peruse through.
The event was graced with the presence of June Searchfield, President of Cancer Support France - Deux Sevres and I am delighted to say that the morning raised a total €228.
There were a number of coffee mornings scheduled on Friday 27th September, many were on the cake trail and found many delights on their journey. I was delighted with the turnout, the money raised but most of all delighted to see people having a good chat face to face with plates of cake in their hands.
