In my pursuit of sharing #14daysofbusinesslove here in France and shining some well deserved light for fellow business owners, day eleven is about Bev Barker-Brown - Chez Tante Mabel. Bev, is one half of a busy husband and wife team and runs and owns Chez Tante Mabel. Bev is a fabulous cake maker and her delicious delights are increasingly being enjoyed by the French as well as the English. The shop is a haven of delights and you simply cannot leave the shop without purchasing a quarter of your favourite childhood sweets from their traditional sweetshop. Bev and Paul arrived in France at a similar time to myself and it has been lovely watching their business blossom as they take a steady approach to their development, which makes absolute sound business sense.
What's your #1 tip when dealing with clients?
Always have a smile, treat people the way you wish to be treated, with respect.
What is your most memorable experience as a business owner in France?
I have lots of memorable experiences, I have experienced both good and bad since our move here. I have met many lovely like minded people, who I now consider my friends. And the fact that I'm working along side my partner in crime makes our journey here more memorable, with which we can face the journey together.
What do you enjoy most about what you do?
What I enjoy most of what I do is the people who come and do my workshops, enjoy their time with me, this is where I can pass on what I love doing.
What do you do to switch off from your business?
I wish I could say I switch off, but I'm always busy doing something!! Maybe I need to make the time for some me time.
What advice would you give to someone starting out in business in France?
My advice is to follow your dreams, if you dream it you can do it...talk to people in similar circumstances, we are all here in the same boat....best of all....Don't ever give up on your dreams.
What's the best book you have ever read?
Ooooo tricky as I have read lots of good books, but my last one I read was by Lee Child, One Shot.
A penguin walks through your front door wearing a sombrero. What does he say and why is he there?
"Guten Morgen" it's about time you got here...welcome to our crazy nuthouse...lets get the party started.
